Instructional Design

Welcome to Innovation and IDeas! This site has been created by SUNY Oswego’s instructional design team to provide assistance and support materials for teaching and learning in online classes. Many of the topics we will address, as well as the materials we provide, can be beneficial for teaching in any modality.

What is instructional design?

Instructional design is the systematic process of creating effective and engaging learning experiences. Based within the science of learning, instructional design is informed by learning theory, psychology; specifically cognitive and educational psychology as well as information processing.

What do instructional designers do?

Instructional designers provide a variety of supports and services depending on the organization. SUNY Oswego’s instructional designers provide services and supports such as online course development consultations, one-on-one consultations regarding online teaching and learning, as well as full course reviews for online courses. Our How We Can Help section provides a full list of the supports and services the team offers.

Our Role

We're here to collaborate with faculty to optimize their subject matter expertise and teaching experience using evidence-informed best practices, instructional strategies, and technology.
