Longtime theater chair Mark Cole (left), now a professor emeritus, and Karen Bacon and Paul Bartow, who were teaching in Oswego's art department in 1996, examine some of the artifacts from a time capsule unearthed recently in conjunction with Tyler Hall Take Two Debut, a week's worth of special events coming up Oct. 27 through Nov. 2. Bartow and Bacon organized the burial 20 years ago of "Time Capsule: A SUNY Oswego Experience," a wooden box of mementoes, among them several works of student art, a textbook, a copy of The Oswegonian, baseball cards and even a pair of Birkenstocks. In the words of Bacon in an April 25, 1996, Oswegonian article, "The purpose of this project is to get people ruminating on the past and future and seeing where the connections lie." Bartow recently said, "Collegial friendships were forged across faculty, students, and departments and the Time Capsule galvanized that moment in our collective history."
