Peter O. Nwosu was inaugurated as SUNY Oswego’s 11th president on Sept. 27. President Nwosu spoke about the institution’s past, present and future during his Inauguration ceremony held in the Deborah F. Stanley Arena and Convocation Hall, Marano Campus Center.

President Peter O. Nwosu and global business leader Bob Moritz gave a public talk in Sheldon Hall Ballroom Sept. 25 to kick off the inaugural Sheldon Lecture on Leadership and Service. President Nwosu presented the 1985 alumnus with the prestigious Presidential Medal, recognizing Moritz’s profound contributions to not only his alma mater, but the global business community through his four decades with the international professional service firm, PwC, including eight as its global chairman, before retiring on June 30. The event was held in conjunction with Inauguration Week. The new lecture series is named for SUNY Oswego founder, Edward Austin Sheldon, and focuses on the hallmarks of Sheldon's life of leadership and service through the personal stories, experiences and perspectives of the prominent guest speaker.

A City of Oswego proclamation officially recognized Peter O. Nwosu and his inauguration as SUNY Oswego president. During the ceremony Sept. 23 at Oswego City Hall in the Council Chambers, President Nwosu thanks Oswego Mayor Robert Corradino.

The 20th annual Lewis B. O’Donnell Media Summit featured three impactful panelists who have experienced firsthand dramatic changes in technology and storytelling. The panelists included Richard Wolf ’76 (pictured on stage at left), a former vice president of telecommunications and affiliate support for ABC and a former executive vice president for The Switch; Jake Piacenti ’19 (third from left), a technical director for CBS Sports HQ; and Amada Caba ’19 (right), a writer and producer in A&E Network’s Global Creative Content operations. The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) and its state and local partners gathered Sept. 6 in Oswego to celebrate the designation of Lake Ontario National Marine Sanctuary — America’s newest and 16th national marine sanctuary. Adjacent to New York’s Jefferson, Oswego, Cayuga and Wayne counties, the sanctuary’s waters in eastern Lake Ontario serve as a gateway between the Great Lakes and the ocean and protect culturally significant places, resources, and artifacts integral to American history and the heritage of indigenous peoples. The fall 2024 Student Involvement Fair featuring many of SUNY Oswego's 150+ clubs and organizations was held Aug. 28 in the Deborah F. Stanley Arena and Convocation Hall, Marano Campus Center. President Peter O. Nwosu joined the event showcasing these opportunities to meet club members such as (pictured) the Bold Black Beauties.

Students and faculty in the Department of Technology and the Department of Art and Design once again collaborated in the popular Iron Pour, this year titled Festival of Fire. Scrap iron is heated in a coke-fired kiln until molten then poured into molds crafted by creative hands who attended. Scratch plates were provided for anyone to have their idea cast in iron. Ceramics students also demonstrated a pit-fire method of firing their clay pieces outside Tyler Hall. Additionally, music was provided for the Oct. 18 events by the Digital Music Association, a student club from the Music Department.

The Study Abroad Fair, held Sept. 17 and hosted by the Office for International Education and Programs, shared information with students about studying abroad and cultures around the world. Faculty and staff leading faculty-led and quarter courses are available to meet with students to sign up for their programs. The keynote address for the 2024 ALANA Multicultural Student Leadership Conference was provided by Eboné Bell. The talk, "Level Up Leadership," held Sept. 19 in Sheldon Hall Ballroom, focused on preparing students to take their involvement skills to the next level. The conference also featured the annual ALANA Peace Walk, development workshops for student leaders and a talk by Ricardo Nazario y Colón, a published poet and senior vice chancellor for diversity, equity and inclusion and the chief diversity officer for SUNY.

The 10th annual Scholars Brunch, held Sept. 28 in Deborah F. Stanley Arena and Convocation Hall, brought together nearly 300 student scholarship recipients, benefactors and university community members to share stories and appreciation for one another and SUNY Oswego. Speakers highlighted the significant impact philanthropy makes on students, donors and the SUNY Oswego campus. This year’s event was emceed by Aunrée Houston, a 2000 alumnus. Houston is currently a marketing operations executive for Netflix, and has previously worked for both Paramount and HBO. In addition to celebrating students and thanking donors, Houston also acknowledged Mary Gibbons Canale, who is retiring this year as Vice President for University Advancement. A 1981 graduate, Canale was recognized for her achievements which greatly benefited SUNY Oswego and its support for students during her career.

The annual 1.5-mile fun-filled Color Run around SUNY Oswego's west side of campus attracted a large turnout on Aug. 30.

The SUNY Oswego Department of Intercollegiate Athletics inducted five Laker alumni into the 2024 Hall of Fame Class. Each inductee was honored during a dinner ceremony held Oct. 12 in Sheldon Hall ballroom. Inductees, from left, include: Carlos Dolmo ’99, wrestling; Nicholas Perioli ’08, men's basketball and baseball; Jennifer Reed ’10, women's swimming and diving; Gregory Doyle ’08, men’s swimming and diving; and Sean Green ’90, men’s hockey.

The "Dream Big!" Career, Internship, and Graduate School Fair combined businesses, employers and graduate schools into one blockbuster event with extended hours, which previously were two different events. The Oct. 8 event, held in the Deborah F. Stanley Arena and Convocation Hall, offered students one-on-one introductions with approximately 102 organizations and 61 graduate schools. International and returning study abroad students who traveled during the spring and summer semesters of 2024 were welcomed to a social Sept. 23 in Sheldon Hall ballroom hosted by the Office of International Education and Programs. Many of the faculty and staff who led faculty-led courses attended to greet the students along with welcome remarks from President Peter O. Nwosu. The campus community gathered Sept. 16 for the National Ovarian Cancer Awareness Month group photo at Culkin Hall followed by a walk around the lagoon in remembrance of the late Mary Gosek. SUNY Oswego's SEFA (State Employees Federated Appeal) campaign continues the Totally Teal campaign for fundraising and awareness in this annual event in September.

Students gathered for a group photo on Wednesday, Oct. 16, for Wear Purple Day, part of events on campus for Hazing Prevention Week. The photo was a collaborative event by the Office of Student Conduct, Student Engagement and Leadership, Campus Recreation, the Dean of Students Office and Auxiliary Services.
