Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL)

SUNY Oswego's program in teaching English to speakers of other languages (TESOL) prepares you to specialize in teaching English to non-native English speakers in an increasingly globalized environment.

Overview

The unique program, which offers both linguistics and education courses, combines three years of intensive academic study with a year of clinically rich experience, during which you’ll be immersed in schools, coached by certified English as a second language (ESL) teachers and supported by Oswego’s faculty. TESOL majors can seek initial certification upon graduation and apply to teach ESL in K-12 schools.

Apply for tuition assistantships, scholarships and study-abroad opportunities. Join the Linguistics Club. Interact with students of diverse backgrounds — including international students majoring in teaching English in their home countries. You can pursue a second major or a minor in linguistics, a foreign language, cognitive science or other fields.

Our Clinical Practice and Partnerships Office can connect you with opportunities to learn in and lead classrooms in a diverse offering of locations.
