Under the direction of the Senior Associate Director for Residence Life and Housing, the Associate Director for Recruitment and Training is a member of the Residence Life and Housing leadership team. This position is responsible for the recruitment, selection, onboarding, and training processes for residence life and housing staff members. This position is also responsible for developing a comprehensive training program for professional staff and will implement the performance evaluation process for the Residence Life and Housing team. Central to this role is promoting student recruitment, retention, and academic enrichment, specifically as it relates to student learning and development, equity and inclusion, and student engagement. Under the direction of the Senior Associate Director for Residence Life and Housing, the Assistant Director strives to develop cohesive, safe, and positive residence hall communities; manages response to student conduct in the residence halls; leads initiatives to improve community standards and community health; and serves as student and staff advocate for the purpose of enhancing the operations, programs, services, and student retention of a residence hall system. Serves as a member of the department's leadership team initiating strategic planning and organizational leadership to facilitate the development of the overall operation including engagement of students in educational opportunities that exist to build community and develop citizenship and leadership; support student success; and contribute to the achievement of SUNY Oswego's academic mission and strategic planning goals. Acts decisively and diplomatically to advance and protect departmental and University relations in resolving situations that are unique, controversial, or not fully resolved by hall staff. Reporting to the Senior Associate Director for the Residential Experience, the Associate Director of Residential Education is responsible for providing leadership and oversight of the residential learning initiatives for the Department of Residence Life and Housing. Residence Life and Housing (RLH) leads the development of the strong residential character of the SUNY Oswego campus and provides a common experience for most of the undergraduate community. Situated within the Division of Student Affairs, RLH plays a critical role in furthering the mission and vision of the Division and in achieving institutional enrollment goals through cutting edge business services, direct interface with the holistic needs of students and their families, and nationally recognized residential education practices. RLH works to advance student attainment of General Education goals with residence hall initiatives organized through a curricular approach to residential education.
The Associate Director is a key member of the Residence Life and Housing Leadership team. The Associate Director for Residential Education will develop, implement, coordinate, and assess a residential curriculum model and the living learning community framework consistent with the strategic goals of the College. The Associate Director will work collaboratively with a wide range of campus partners to support the overall success of maintaining a holistic residential community focused on student learning and success. Under the direction of an Assistant Director of Residence Life and Housing, the Residence Hall Director (RHD) works within their assigned residential area to create living environments that facilitate positive learning experiences, communities and support the academic mission of SUNY Oswego. RHDs play key roles in the department of Residence Life and Housing (RLH) and the broader campus community.
Situated within the Division of Student Affairs, RLH plays a critical role in furthering the mission and vision of the Division and in achieving institutional enrollment goals through cutting edge business services, direct interface with the holistic needs of students and their families, and nationally recognized residential education practices. RLH works to advance student attainment of General Education learning outcomes with residence hall initiatives organized through a curricular approach to residential education.
RHDs provide leadership to paraprofessional staff and student leaders; partner with students to develop vibrant inclusive communities which encourage student engagement, community contributions, a free exchange of ideas, and the cultivation of skills and knowledge so that students may become citizens and leaders in our increasingly global society; and serve on a variety of department and divisional committees and implementation teams furthering strategic aims.
