The Office of the President
May 1, 2018

Dear Members of our Campus Community,

Yesterday, staff from SUNY Oswego’s Health Services informed the administration of a suspected isolated case of measles on campus.  Please be advised that we are taking all precautionary measures to be responsible to the entire campus population and quarantined the individual student immediately on Monday in advance of the student’s parents arriving in the afternoon to bring the student home.

SUNY Oswego is working with the Oswego County Health Department on this matter and awaiting lab results.  If results come back positive, the student must remain off campus for a period of four days.

I will update the campus community as more information becomes available and I assure you that we will be closely monitoring this one suspected case and the health of our entire campus over the remainder of the semester.

What is measles?  Measles is a highly contagious virus that starts with fever, runny nose, cough, red eyes, and sore throat.  It is followed by a rash that spreads over the body.  For more information, visit https://www.cdc.gov/measles/index.html

Sincerely,

Deborah F. Stanley
