Alumna appointed to SUNY Oswego College Council

Carol Bradlinski-Watros of nearby Mexico has been appointed to SUNY Oswego’s College Council by New York State Gov. Kathy Hochul for a three-year term. The College Council is mandated by New York State Education Law, which provides for the establishment of a local council to supervise the operations and affairs of each state-operated institution of the State University.

Inaugural director of workforce innovation and community impact joins SUNY Oswego

SUNY Oswego’s Office of Workforce Innovation and External Relations (OWIER), launched by SUNY Oswego President Peter O. Nwosu in fall 2023, has named Kathryn Watson as its inaugural director of workforce innovation and community impact.

Alumnus creates new scholarship supporting physics students

If you appreciate that your cell phone fits nicely in your pocket or purse, you can thank physics major and 1980 SUNY Oswego graduate Paul Vianco and the contributions made by his team at Sandia National Laboratories in Albuquerque to the electronics industry. He recently also decided to contribute toward the next generation of researchers by creating a physics scholarship for students at his alma mater.

South Korean school group visits SUNY Oswego in program restart

In late July, SUNY Oswego’s Office of International Education and Programs hosted 18 students and teachers from the SIS International School in Gwangju, South Korea. While the experience itself was fun for participants, it also represented the return of the Institute for Global Engagement Summer Global Partnership Programs, previously curtailed by the COVID pandemic.

Shelly Sloan receives three awards from SUNY Council of Senior Student Affairs Officers

Michelle (Shelly) Sloan, SUNY Oswego assistant dean of students for student well-being, recently received three awards from the SUNY Council of Senior Student Affairs Officers -- the Mental Health Champion Award and two honors for outstanding programs.

To express her deep gratitude to her mother and to help others afford a SUNY Oswego education, Lois Frankel established the Sonia P. Frankel Memorial Scholarship to support a student who is majoring in gender and women’s studies.

The Oswego County Micron Strategy Steering Committee (OCMSSC) was officially launched in early 2023 shortly after Micron’s historic announcement to invest $100 billion in Central New York over the next 20 years through the creation of a megafab chip plant to be located just over Oswego County’s border in Clay, New York.
