Members of the campus community are invited to a series of events on Friday, Sept. 2, when "Relax, Refuel, Return to Nature" unfolds from 1 to 4 p.m at Rice Creek Field Station.
Rice Creek Field Station, Campus Recreation and Fitness, the Counseling Services Center and the Office of Sustainability teamed up to offer students this afternoon of recreation and relaxation in nature. Faculty and staff are also welcome.
Whether you prefer sitting in a hammock, going for a paddle, playing lawn games or going for a walk in the forest, there is something for everyone. The lineup of scheduled and drop-in activities includes:
- Kayaking/canoeing on Rice Pond
- Outdoor yoga at 3 p.m. (one-hour duration)
- Guided butterfly meditation at 2 and 3 p.m. (30-minute duration)
- Guided and self-guided nature walks (one-hour duration)
- Nature-inspired art: rock painting
- Chill in a hammock
- Lawn games
- Snacks
- Giveaway prizes of reusable water bottles
Getting to Rice Creek
Students can access Rice Creek Field Station via a 12-minute ride on the Green Shuttle, which leaves Marano Campus Center on the half-hour (see schedule). Alternatively, students can walk, bike or drive to Rice Creek, which is located about 1.5 miles south of campus at 193 Thompson Road.
