The fall theatre season for SUNY Oswego raises its curtain on Oct. 18 with the premiere of the student production of "The Importance of Being Earnest."
Directed by theatre faculty member Steven Mazzoccone, who also is an Oswego alum, the production of the classic Oscar Wilde comedy will run through Oct. 22 in Tyler Hall's Waterman Theatre.
The satirical production focusing on the facades people put on for society was first performed in 1895, and the Oswego production is set in that same year.
The production coincides with Family and Friends Weekend on campus, and Mazzoccone emphasized that the production is family-friendly.
After the opening-night production on Oct. 18, attendees can stay for a talk back featuring faculty from the SUNY Oswego History Department, Theatre Department production team and cast members in Waterman Theatre.
“The Importance of Being Earnest” will have 7:30 p.m. curtains on Oct. 18, 19 and 20; 2 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. showings on Saturday, Oct. 21; and a Sunday 2 p.m. matinee on Oct. 22.
