Tyler Art Gallery will open its exhibitions for this academic year with "Figuratively Speaking," running from Sept. 3 to Oct. 6 in the Tyler Hall first-floor gallery. SUNY Oswego's Tyler Art Gallery will open its exhibitions for 2024-25 with "Figuratively Speaking," running from Sept. 3 to Oct. 6, with an opening reception on Friday Sept. 6, from 5-7 p.m. at the first-floor gallery in Tyler Hall.
"Figuratively Speaking" follows the tradition of exploring the human condition through representations of the figure. From exploring the need to feel beautiful and sexy in a world that judges you to exploring the dark and light side of being, confronting voyeuristic intrusion and narratives of community, the exhibition is intended to challenge the viewer to see and not just look.
The exhibition highlights the work of artists connected to Central New York in their exploration of body diversity and
ecology. Some of the work will challenge viewers to confront their cultural stereotypes.
"Figuratively Speaking" will feature artists Lindsey Guile, Amber Lia-Kloppel, Lacey McKinney, Sofía Luz Pérez and Luanne Redeye.
Hours for the gallery are 2 to 6 p.m. Tuesdays through Fridays, 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays.
