SUNY Oswego’s Del Sarte Dance Club student organization will take to the stage on Friday, Nov. 15, and Saturday, Nov. 16, to showcase their fall recital.
The recital will start on Friday at 7 p.m. and Saturday at 2 p.m. in Tyler Hall’s Waterman Theatre located in Tyler Hall. Themed “The Wild West,” the show will open with dancers performing to a mix of country songs and also feature a wide variety of dance styles including contemporary, modern, hip-hop, jazz, lyrical and tap.
Its run time will be close to three hours with an intermission.
Del Sarte was created to provide an outlet for students to express creativity with physical fitness and showcase their talent in dance. The club is student-run and choreographed, with dancers practicing each week leading up to the end of the semester when they will have their recital.
Molly Roes is president of the club and a junior zoology major. She has been a part of the club since her first semester as a freshman in fall 2022. Roes said she is looking forward to the upcoming recital, even if that means taking on more responsibilities and time with her executive board position.
“There were a lot more responsibilities to be an officer than I thought, and it stresses me out at times, but I love it so much,” said Roes. “I love being able to contribute to a club that impacts me in such a positive way.”
Beyond taking on the position of president, Roes choreographed two dance numbers: a contemporary piece to “Blue” by Billie Eilish and a modern piece to “Procession” by Cemeteries. Roes will also be a part of 17 dance numbers during the recital.
Marin Sharer is the secretary of the club and a junior childhood education major. Similar to Roes, Sharer joined the dance club during her first semester of freshman year in fall 2022. As she has taken on an executive position, she has noticed a lot of learning, but a lot of growth too, especially with having an earlier recital date.
“Our recital is a couple of weeks earlier than it usually is, with less time and fewer rehearsals to get everything ready,” said Sharer. “Even with that though, our dances have come together and I’m so proud of the dedication of the dancers and choreographers.”
Sharer also will choreograph two dances under the styles of jazz and contemporary, and be a part of multiple dance numbers in the show.
Besides the upcoming recital, the club and the rest of the executive board have also hosted bonding events, such as an annual chip dip party and in October plus some members participating in the Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Walk in Syracuse.
Tickets for the recital are free for students, $7 for the general public, and $5 for youth or senior citizens. Tickets are available at the campus box office in person or online via the box office website.
