Vance Gilbert, an award-winning singer-songwriter, will come to the SUNY Oswego campus for a live recording of his podcast and speak to classes during a visit to the Port City in late February.
Gilbert’s live recording of his video podcast, where he performs and discusses songwriting, will take place from 7 to 9 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 26, in the Tyler Hall lobby on campus. This live recording of “The Monday Night Acoustic Pajama Party” is free and open to the public. Organizers expect a brief Q&A before the broadcast.
Some 30 years into his career, the songwriter’s influence can be felt all over the contemporary folk and Americana realm. Gilbert has been a prominent presence at some of the world’s most prestigious gatherings and halls, among them the Newport, Winnipeg, Rocky Mountain, Calgary, Ottawa, and Falcon Ridge Folk festivals, the Kate Wolf Music Festival, Australia’s Woodford Folk and Mullum Music Festivals, Mountain Stage, Boston's Symphony Hall, Nashville’s Lyman Auditorium and The Barns at Wolftrap.
His new album, "The Mother Of Trouble,” features Grammy winner Lori McKenna on background vocals, Juno award recipient and Grammy-winning song co-writer Joey Landreth on guitars and Americana-roots master mandolinist Joe K. Walsh.
Known for his versatility, Gilbert even has a tune on a Grammy-nominated children’s album.
While on the Oswego campus, Gilbert also will lecture to students in art and music honors classes. Gilbert’s SUNY Oswego appearance is supported by an ARTSwego Flexible Funding Grant, the Department of Art and Design, and the School of Communication, Media and the Arts.
Gilbert’s visit to Oswego includes a performance at the Oswego Music Hall on Feb. 24, and a songwriting workshop at the Art Association of Oswego on Feb. 25.
