SUNY Oswego welcomes a variety of visitors for student activities and other events Oct. 25 to Oct. 27, for Family and Friends Weekend.
Events for students, family and friends will showcase the scholarly, creative and athletic talents of SUNY Oswego students, as well as other entertainment.
Family and Friends Weekend has been a tradition at SUNY Oswego for over two decades. For many students, this event provides the first opportunity to see family and friends since the beginning of the semester. This weekend presents an important opportunity for families and friends to share firsthand in their students' SUNY Oswego experience.
Some of the many highlights will include:
- The second weekend of the musical theatre production "The Fantasticks," with nightly 7:30 p.m. performances in Waterman Theatre through Saturday
- A Music Department Concert at noon on Saturday in the Hewitt ballroom
- A performance by the college's Vocal Effect show choir at 3 p.m. Saturday in The Space, Marano Campus Center
- "Night of Nostalgia," a step-team competition hosting by Oswego's Image Step Team at 7:30 p.m. Saturday in Hewitt ballroom
- A mini-carnival especially for students and siblings, featuring games, food, face-painting, bounce houses and more from 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday in the Swetman Gymnasium
- Comedy magician Trent James performing at 1:30 and 3 p.m. Saturday in the Marano Campus Center auditorium
- Sporting events throughout the weekend including home games for the Laker men's and women's hockey teams, field hockey team, volleyball team and women’s soccer team
A Family and Friends Weekend events calendar details these and many other activities planned.
“Students play a big role in this weekend. They play in sporting events, and offer theater performances as well as musical performances,” said Kelly Perkins, the marketing and communications manager for the Office of Campus Life, which coordinates the weekend. “In the past, Family and Friends Weekend has been extremely successful.”
