University Police Chief Kevin Velzy and Officer Derek Wiebel were part of an effort to make holiday dreams come true to local children.
Velzy and Wiebel joined other police officers in the county on Saturday, Dec. 4, at the Granby Walmart for this event helping kids and families.
"There are 50 kids from Phoenix, Fulton and Oswego that have been selected to do their holiday shopping with a police officer," Velzy said. "They can select something for themselves, but more importantly purchase gifts for their family. Each child gets $150 to spend."
Velzy and Wiebel each took their shopping buddy around the store to fill out the holiday wish lists. Organizers of the event included Jen Losurdo of the Oswego City-County Youth Bureau and Patrick Dewine of the United Way of Greater Oswego County.
