SUNY Oswego’s annual celebration of scholarly and creative activities, Quest, will showcase some new features spotlighting student creativity in areas including music, poetry and art, filmmaking, theatre and more on April 17.

A pair of experiences in room 50 of Tyler Hall will take attendees inside the creative, performing and recording processes of students in Oswego’s music program.

From 3 to 5 p.m., “Audio Recording and Production Recital: ‘Recording Technology IV’ Students” will showcase student work from semester-long album production projects. Students will introduce and then play the singles from their albums. The recording technology class is a senior seminar course for audio design and production majors.

From 2 to 3 p.m., members of the Jazz Small Group ensemble will present “Songs We Love - Adapting a Broad Range of Music for a Jazz Small Group.” Members were asked to suggest music they love, regardless of style. Students then selected the music, located notated versions (or transcribed it by ear) and adapted their piece for the Jazz Small Group. In this session, students will discuss the process, including the challenges they faced, and then perform selections.

Cinema and screen studies majors will showcase and discuss more than 20 short films during Quest. Campus community members can catch this mini-film festival from 9 to 11:50 a.m. and 3 to 6 p.m. in 133 Marano Campus Center.

“Ekphrasis: Poetry Inspired by Paintings” will explore the intersection of poetry and art from 3 to 3:50 p.m. in 201 Marano Campus Center. Students from the "Advanced Poetry" creative writing course will read poems they wrote in response to art students' paintings and discuss their process.

In preparation for SUNY Oswego’s Theatre and Music departments presenting “The Addams Family” musical from April 16 to 21, the cast and crew will take visitors on a backstage tour to show how the craft of musical theatre comes together. This tour will take place from 3 to 3:50 p.m. in Waterman Theatre, where the presentation unfolds throughout the week.

Senior theatre major Chrisaury Guzman will present a collection of monologues and scenes from 4 to 4:50 p.m. in the Tyler Hall lab theatre. Monologue selections will include Bottom from "A Midsummer Night's Dream,” Undine from “Fabulation” and Cynthia from “Sweat.” In addition, Guzman will perform scenes from “Julius Caesar” and “Much Ado About Nothing” with fellow students Nijel Dubuisson and Ariana Palmer.

Quest day activities, during which classes are canceled, will take place from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Visit the Quest website for a schedule and more information about this tradition.
