SUNY Oswego’s online MBA tied for 20th among online master of business administration programs nationally—the highest of any institution in the state, according to U.S. News’ 2016 “Best Online Degree Programs: MBA” rankings published Jan. 12.

Oswego’s School of Business was the only public school in New York to crack the list’s top 100 online graduate business programs.

“The U.S. News & World Report ranking is an affirmation of the quality of our online MBA program. The ranking is based upon measures of student engagement, admissions selectivity, peer reputation, faculty credentials, student services and technology,” said Richard Skolnik, dean of Oswego’s School of Business.

“Our ranking reflects the expertise of our faculty, the support services provided by the MBA Office, the quality of our MBA students, the expertise of the Extended Learning instructional design team, and the commitment to online learning provided by the college,” Skolnik said. “Our nationally ranked online MBA program provides educational access to individuals who because of work, family or location are unable to enroll in classroom-based programs.”

The more than 100 students in Oswego’s online MBA program are among nearly 300 in the college’s overall MBA program, which is customized for every student, said Irene Scruton, Oswego’s MBA director. More than 80 percent of these students are working professionals looking to advance their careers, she added.

“We get to know our students and what works best for them, what can help them be successful,” Scruton said. “Whether taking MBA courses in classrooms, online or as hybrid courses, our students can learn from outstanding faculty, benefit from the best teaching models and receive help from dedicated support staff.”

The high ranking for Oswego’s online MBA program shows that the traditionally strong School of Business—accredited by AACSB International, the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business—has successfully translated campus-based instruction to serve students everywhere, college officials said.

Oswego’s online MBA program is “enriching far beyond the subject area knowledge,” said Laura Einhorn, who completed her degree last month after taking time off from her career to raise a family. “It was a valuable experience to work with such a diverse, multicultural and incredibly talented group of classmates,” she said.

“The courses are relevant and up to date; but more importantly, the SUNY Oswego MBA program places great emphasis on the application of knowledge in real businesses,” said Einhorn, who noted she plans to return to work in advertising.

After Oswego’s spot at number 20, other institutions in the state include Rochester Institute of Technology’s Saunders College of Business at 31st, Clarkson University at 36th and Syracuse University’s Whitman School of Management at 44th.
