The college’s first-ever Wellness Day -- a break in the compressed spring semester calendar on Wednesday, Feb. 24 -- will offer a day to relax, but also to take advantage of mental and physical wellness activities, ranging from fresh air at Rice Creek to arts and crafts to enjoying yoga and music.

Rice Creek Field Station, located on Thompson Road about a quarter mile from campus, will offer opportunities to be active or to just soak in the beautiful scenery. Events will include a nature writing workshop, self-guided snowshoeing, visiting a snow cave, peaceful watercolor painting, an evening owl prowl and other natural activities. Read more about Rice Creek’s Wellness Day events.

A pair of virtual make-and-take crafting events will take place in the afternoon in a 3 p.m. session titled Positive Plants: Assemble Your Own Air Plant Terrarium and 6:30 p.m. Paint Party. For the air plant terrarium session, participants follow the step-by-step assembly of their very own air plant terrarium, and discuss the benefits of greenery in indoor spaces. The Paint Party features Nikki of Paint with Me! guiding participants step-by-step in creating their own canvas masterpieces. Free materials are available on a first-come, first-served basis by signing up online for these events, sponsored by New Student Orientation.

Two Deep Breaths: A Gentle Yoga and Live Music Getaway will aim to soothe the senses at 7 p.m. Led by Shanice Green, a musician and yoga instructor, this virtual session will encourage a sense of community through an interactive music performance and gentle yoga session.

Other activities include Campus Recreation Basketball Shootaround from 2 to 9 a.m. in Swetman Gym; the popular Yappy Hour Zoom-with-dogs event at 4 p.m.; a Zumba class in the Marano Campus Center arena at 4:30 p.m.; and a pair of virtual on-demand creative endeavors in a drawing demonstration and Get It Out: Using Art to Feel Better.

The Counseling Services Center, Fitness Centers, Campus Recreation, Rice Creek Field Station, New Student Orientation and other partners put together this offering of activities.
